Volterra Semiconductor Corp. v. Primarion, Inc. and Infineon Technologies

The Focal Point joined forces with the IP group and longtime client at Farella Braun + Martell LLP to assert two patents concerning flip chip voltage regulators held by Bay Area startup, Volterra.

The Focal Point’s Role

The Focal Point was engaged very early in the process to assist with the Claims Construction hearing as well as to provide tutorial assistance to Judge Spero and his court.

Over the course of the next two years, The Focal Point worked closely with Farella lawyers to develop demonstratives and provide presentation support for numerous court hearings.

By the time the jury trial came around, our themes were crystallized and only a few substantive issues remained. Farella put on their case during a three week trial using animations, 2D graphics and foam core boards supplied by The Focal Point.

The court issued summary judgment rulings and JMOL rulings in favor of our client throughout the engagement and the jury returned a verdict upholding the remaining issues on validity of the patents after deliberating for less than half a day.
